Chris Palmer, ’72, played quarterback for the Owls before moving on to a distinguished coaching career in college football and the National Football League. He coached collegiately at Connecticut College, Lehigh University and Colgate University as an assistant and later served as head coach at the University of New Haven and Boston University. Palmer, who also coached in the Canadian Football League and the United States Football League, served as an assistant coach with the NFL’s Houston Oilers and New England Patriots, and was the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1999 and 2000 before joining another expansion team, the Houston Texans, as offensive coordinator. Palmer went on to win a Super Bowl while on the staff of the New York Giants.
