Contributing a half century of service to Southern Connecticut State University and its student-athletes, Dr. Lawrence Fitzgerald ‘63/’67 served as a professor in the communication department from 1965-2015 and was the university’s Faculty Athletics Representative from 1978-97.
During that time, Fitzgerald was extremely active on the campus, local and national levels to enhance SCSU and college athletics as a whole. He served as a member of the NCAA Soccer Rules Committee from 1989-95, the Division II Management Council (1996-2000) and the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sport (1996-2000).
On the campus front, he was instrumental in securing funding and with the design of Jess Dow Field and was the public address announcer for football and men’s soccer for more than 20 years. Fitzgerald also served as the Chair of the Athletic Board of Control from 1978-97.
