Dr. Paul ‘Topsy’ DelGobbo, ’57, was a three-sport standout who ranked among the Owls’ all-time scoring leaders in men’s basketball, with 1,507 points. He was team captain and helped lead Southern to the NAIA National Championships two times during his career on the hardwood. He was also a member of the baseball and track and field teams for the Owls. DelGobbo went on to play professional basketball in the Eastern League along with several seasons of semi-professional experience. DelGobbo also played eight seasons and earned All-America Honors with the Raybestos Cardinals fast-pitch softball team and was signed by the Baltimore Orioles.
