SCSU Football's Jacques Cesaire '02 was the 2002 NE10 Defensive Player of the Year and AFCA All-American. Cesaire graduated from Southern Connecticut with the career record in sacks (21) while his single-season m ark of 12 in 2001 ranked third all-time.
Following his playing career at Southern Connecticut, Cesaire enjoyed a nine-year career with the National Football League’s San Diego Chargers, starting in 66 of 109 games. Cesaire's best years came between 2006 and 2008, when he totaled 8.5 sacks while playing a key role in the Chargers' defense. In total, he started 66 games, recorded 220 tackles, and tallied 12.5 sacks.
Following a nine-year playing career, In 2015 Cesaire was named the defensive line coach for the NCAA Division I University of San Diego. He then went on to become the assistant defensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2022 when he was hired as the defensive line coach with the Houston Texans. As of 2025, Cesaire is the defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns.
