James Amerine, ’71, led the Owls to national prominence. He won NCAA championships on still rings in 1968 and 1969, and in the all-around in 1968. He helped the Owls finish second in the NCAA championships in 1969 and 1970 after placing third in 1968. He captured 17 All-America awards in three seasons, including three each on still rings, horizontal bar and the all-around. He was North American rings champion in 1968.
