Jim Kohnowich, ’70, was arguably the finest freestyle swimmer ever at Southern. He held numerous Owls records and won the NCAA Division II championship in the 100-yard freestyle in 1969. He was one of only two Southern swimmers to win national titles that year. He holds the Southern record for All-America awards, having earned 11 in his three seasons.
