Joseph Ciaburri was one of the most noteworthy figures in commercial banking in the State of Connecticut after founding The Bank of New Haven as well as Southern Connecticut Bancorp.

In addition to 45 years in banking, Ciaburri was passionate about sports and offered a scholarship that was available for SCSU basketball players. Ciaburri owned the New Haven Elms, which were a farm team for the NBA’s Boston Celtics and was the General Manager of the World Champion Columbus Bears softball team.

The first Italian American to be named the President of The New Haven Symphony Orchestra; Member of The Economic Advisory Board under President Ronald Reagan; Member of The Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Bank Administration Institute in Chicago, Illinois, Past President of the Connecticut Community Bankers Association, Member of The Board of Directors of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, Owner of the New Haven Elms Professional Basketball Team in the Eastern League, General Manager of the World Champion Columbus Bears Softball Team, Color Announcer for ABC and WNHC Radio for Saturday college football.

Joe also earned his undergraduate degree from SCSU, attended the Master's Degree Program at Wesleyan University where he was an Averill Harriman Scholar, was a Graduate of The Stonier School of Banking and attended the Yale SOM. Joe served his country faithfully in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
