Larry McHugh, ’62, was a star offensive lineman for the Owls under Coach Jess Dow. But he went on to even greater achievement as a head football coach at Middletown’s Xavier High School. In his 20 years of coaching, his teams amassed a 160-88-7 record, including a New England record 34 consecutive wins. He was named Connecticut High School Coach of the Year in 1971 and 1974. He won the NHSCA Keith Award for Outstanding Service to High School Athletics.
