Louise Albrect, ’79, was a pioneer in women’s athletics at Southern and beyond, having played with the famed Raybestos Brakettes fast-pitch softball team. At Southern, she was a teacher and administrator, as well as coach of the softball and volleyball teams between 1970 and 1992. Albrecht is a member of the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame, the Connecticut Scholastic and Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame, the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Northeast Women in Sports Hall of Fame. She served on the NCAA women’s basketball rules committee and the NCAA Council. And she received the 1993 District Administrator of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators.
