Michael Petke

Michael Petke was a two-time All-American for the Owls and helped the team win the 1995 NCAA title as a player before moving on to a decorated professional career as a player and coach. While with the Owls, he was also selected to the Senior Bowl and represented the United States at the 1995 World University Games, the U.S. Olympic Festival and with the U-18, U-21 and U-23 teams. The Owls went 79-3-7 during his career and also reached the NCAA semifinals in 1994, 1996 and 1997. He was the 1994 New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year, the 1997 NECC Co-Player of the Year, and the 1997 NECC Defensive Player of the Year.
 
His professional career in Major League Soccer spanned 14 years, seven of which were with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars/New York Red Bulls organization. A three-time MLS All-Star, Petke also was a 2004 MLS Cup champion with the D.C. United squad. He also earned two caps for the United States. The Red Bulls also honored Petke as part of its ‘First XI’ and ‘20 in 20’ squads.
 
Petke transitioned into coaching and spent two years as an assistant coach with the Red Bulls before being named head coach in 2013. He guided his side to its best two-year run in franchise history, along with the 2013 Supporters Shield. He was named head coach of Real Salt Lake of MLS in the spring of 2017.
