Tom Sacramone, ’57, earned 16 varsity letters at Southern as a member of the football, basketball, golf, and track and field teams. He was co-captain in his senior year of both the track and field and football teams, leading the latter to an undefeated (9-0) season. He set records of 8.2 yards rushing and a 91-yard run from the scrimmage. He played on the All-State College Football Team in 1955. He went on to coach football, and track and field at several Connecticut high schools, leading to his 30-year career as athletic director at Weston High School from 1964 to 1994. He was named Track and Field Coach of the Year by the Connecticut Coaches’ Association in 1983 and by the National Coaches’ Association in 1985. He was inducted into the New Haven Gridiron Club Hall of Fame in 1991.
