Wayne Durrigan, ’77, was one of only six Southern track athletes to be named a Division I All-American. He won the NCAA Division II championships in the hammer throw in 1976 and 1977, and was among the all-time Top 10 performers in three events – the hammer, the shot and the 35-pound weight. Durrigan went on to serve nine seasons as an assistant track and field coach at the United States Military Academy, and was also an assistant at New Haven’s Wilbur Cross High School.
