Wilton Wright served as head coach of the track and field team for 36 seasons and men’s cross country coach for 27 years. He coached the freshman football team, served as the chairman of the men’s physical education department from 1975-78 and was the director of the division of health, physical education, recreation and safety education in 1980-81. His track and field and cross country teams produced over 100 All-America performers and 17 national champions. Wright was a member of the NCAA track and field rules committee, and he served as vice president of the ICAAAA, president of the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and president and secretary of the Collegiate Track Conference.
