HOME FOR A SPLIT SECOND
The Southern Connecticut softball squad will host the Pace Setters on Tuesday, April 23 for a single game matchup in Southwest Division action. The Setters currently sit fourth in the Northeast 10, while the Owls sit sixth in the NE10. Last week these two squads squared off at the Pace Softball Field in Pleasantville, N.Y. where the Setters claimed both victories of the doubleheader, 8-0 and 4-1.

Last time out, Alexa Bacoulis (Monroe, Conn.) went 3-for-6 on the day including a double and a RBI, while Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) went 2-for-7 with one run and one stolen base. Sophomore pitcher Kailey Westington (Ridgefield, Conn.), who only has 17 at-bats this season, seeing most of her time in the circle, dazzled in the batters box going 2-for-3 in game two including a double, while pitching six innings with two strikeouts.

The Setters were led by Emma Bernet in the circle, who tossed a complete six innings of work to pick up her sixth win of the year. The junior allowed just four hits and walked one while striking out four. Bernet has now won her last three starts, allowing a lone earned run during that stretch. Southern will look to bounce back from the sweep behind the bats of Bacoulis and Buscetto with the first pitch set to be tossed at 4 p.m. at Pelz Field in New Haven.

That grand slam was the first home run of Bacoulis' career and adds to her solid play in her debut season.
