NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In conjunction with the 2017 Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has announced a redesign of its Owl logo, effective immediately. SCSU partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logos.
 

"Our new branding initiative and marks truly represent the successful track record and fierce, competitive, nature of our 19 intercollegiate programs," said Director of Athletics Jay Moran. "This was an evaluation process that began through feedback and conversations with numerous constituents almost immediately upon my arrival. The team at Phoenix Design Works has been instrumental in executing our vision since our partnership in this process commenced over a year ago. Our new marks demonstrate consistency for all of our programs and really enforce that fighting spirit that long resonates in our athletics history and with our proud, loyal alumni and fan base."

The new scheme standardizes the logos utilized by Southern Connecticut's 19 programs. Feedback from an array of groups, including coaches, students, alumni, faculty and staff were integrated into the design process.

The project includes a new primary athletics logo, a secondary logo, a primary wordmark, a primary lettermark and a number of sport-specific logos for each team and athletic department support area.

Immediate implementation of the new athletics logo will be evident on the SCSU athletics website, www.southernctowls.com, and through all official athletic department social media platforms on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and YouTube. In addition, new signage has also been installed at Jess Dow Field and on the Athletics Hall of Fame display inside Moore Field House.

Future plans for logo enhancement will address additional areas inside the Moore Field House lobby and gymnasium, along with Pelz Gymnasium, and the artificial turf surface at Jess Dow Field.

 Southern Connecticut State University's outstanding athletic program continually ranks among the top NCAA Division II programs in the nation, and also boasts a long record of  dominance in the Northeast for both team and individual championships. The Owls rank among the top 10 nationally with 79 individual titles and in team championships with 10 titles.

The athletic department fields 19 varsity sports (eight men, 11 women) that compete at the Division II level as a member of the NE10 Conference and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (women's gymnastics).

SCSU had NCAA championships representation in eight sports in 2016-17 and also ranked among the top-30 percent of all Division II programs in the Learfield Sports Cup for the 11th straight year.
