SCSU Athletics Tailgating Policy

North Campus Parking Lot Is The Designated Homecoming Tailgate Location

General Tailgating Regulations

  • Parking lots will open three (3) hours prior to the scheduled start of the game for Saturday games.
  • Tailgating will not be available for weekday games due to parking needs of students during evening academic courses & activities.   
  • Parking is limited, thus one car, one space will be enforced.
  • The tailgating area will close one (1) hour after conclusion of the game.
  • Tailgating is permitted at Home Football Games.
*Portable rest rooms are available in North Lot.  Additional facilities are located at Jess Dow Field. Residence Hall bathrooms are not available for public use.
 
The university reserves the right to close down any tailgating area and to dismiss any person from the premises for violations of this policy or when it determines is required for public safety purposes.
 
Legal Restrictions
  • Attendees are expected to obey all laws and may face arrest and prosecution if the law is violated. 
  • The legal age for possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in Connecticut is 21. 
  • It is illegal to provide alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.  
Policy Restrictions
Violators of the policy restrictions outlined below will be asked to cease the behavior or leave the event.  Those that persist may be subject to arrest and/or campus discipline.
  • Anyone in possession of or consuming alcoholic beverages must produce a valid ID to Police or University Staff when requested.
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages on any other part of the campus or on public streets that run through or adjacent to campus is prohibited. 
  • The university encourages the consumption of food throughout the duration of tailgating, especially when alcohol will be consumed by patrons. 
  • Kegs and glass bottles or containers are prohibited. 
  • The sale of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.
  • Drinking games (included but not limited to beer pong), and the use of devices intended to accelerate the consumption of alcohol (including but not limited to funnels or beer bongs) are prohibited.
  • Loud, abusive language and behavior that prevent others from enjoying tailgating is prohibited.
  • No solicitation of any kind is allowed on SCSU property. This includes banners, raffles, or the selling of any products (food, drink, apparel, souvenirs) without written permission from SCSU.
  • Food and beverage may not be brought into Jess Dow Field from non-sanctioned vendors. 
  • Charcoal grills are strictly prohibited. Use of propane (20lb maximum tanks) grills are permitted with safety as the highest priority.
  • No backpacks allowed in Jess Dow Stadiumor tailgating areas.
  • No weapons of any type allowed on campus.
  • No umbrellas are permitted in tailgating areas. 
  • Service animals are allowed, but must be identified as such with proper identification .
  • Smoking is not permitted per BOR policy to include any type of tobacco, vaping, marijuana, or any type of cannabis or marijuana by-product to include prescription or medical marijuana .
  • Respect for the surrounding community is paramount. Noise must be kept to a respectable level and trash must be disposed of in designated receptacles.
Police and staff are assigned to these areas and will enforce all policies and laws.
