INDIANAPOLIS -
Zoe Fanolis, who recently concluded her senior seasons as a member of the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey and softball teams, has been announced as a candidate for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
She was previously named as a candidate for the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year award.
Fanolis was a four-year member of the field hockey squad and joined the Owls' softball team in the spring of 2017. A four-year starter in field hockey, and team captain as a senior, she earned a host of accolades for her academic and athletic success. Fanolis was a two-time All-Conference performer who also was selected and participated on a team representing the United States in international competition in the summer of 2016. She was also named an alternate to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game.
In addition, she earned an array of academic honors, including four selections to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a 2016 nod to the NE10 Field Hockey All-Academic Team, and as a multiple Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award recipient.
Fanolis also immersed herself in an array of community outreach activities during her four years as an Owl. She took part in campus and external events such as Girls and Women in Sport Day, the Big Event, the Ronald Herron Day of Service, Adopt-a-Family and the You Go Girl initiative in conjunction with USA Field Hockey.
This marks the 27th year of the Woman of the Year Award program, which was established in 1991.
