Alyssa Gage Leads Owls In Five-Set Upset Of Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University volleyball won a back-and-forth battle against Northeast 10 Conference foe, Adelphi, 3-2 (19-25, 25-14, 25-13, 19-25 and 15-12). The win pushes SCSU to 12-12 overall and 5-4 in the NE10 while the Owls also deal the Panthers just their second loss in the conference this season. Adelphi moves to 7-2 in the NE10 and 18-5 overall.

Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) had a dominant overall performance highlighted by a career-best 22 kills to go-along with nine digs and five blocks. Gage hit a game-high .370. Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) totaled 15 kills and 14 digs while Kailyn O'Neal (Katy, Texas) tied her career-best with 44 assists while also adding 17 digs.

 
NOTES
  • This is just the second Owls' victory all-time against Adelphi, who entered Tuesday night's match-up with an all-time record of 24-1 against SCSU.
  • The loss snaps the Panthers' five-game winning streak, that included three-straight victories against NE10 competition.
  • 15 of Adelphi's 18 wins this season have come in 3-0 sweeps; including Tuesday night's match-up, Adelphi is 3-5 in eight games that have gone more than three sets.
  • Jillian Chambers (Shelby Township, Mich.) totaled seven kills to go with 11 digs while Jennifer Dawson (Clinton, Conn.) had 12 digs for the Owls.
  • Gabriella Vazquez (Meriden, Conn.) punched in 11 kills to go with five digs.
  • Jadus' double-double was her 13th of the season and 10th in her last 11 matches.
  • Gage's kill total gives her her third 20-kill outing of her career and bests her 21-kill showings against Bentley on Sept. 29 earlier this year and against Adelphi on Nov. 7, 2017.
  • O'Neal now has three 40-assist matches for her career, all coming in her last six matches.

  • Southern Connecticut is back in action this weekend when it hosts Stonehill for its WHITE OUT Game on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Pelz Gym.
