Volleyball Falls To Adelphi In NCAA East Regional

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - No. 7-seeded Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team lost to No. 2-seeded Adelphi, 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-21) in the NCAA East Regional at the University of New Haven. With the loss, Southern Connecticut's season ends at 21-14 while Adelphi improves to 27-6 and advances in the tournament.

Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) posted 12 kills with four digs, two blocks and three services aces while Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) had 10 kills and 11 digs in the loss. Jillian Chambers (Shelby Township, Mich.) had seven kills and nine digs. 

How It Happened
1st Set: (Adelphi 28, SCSU 26)

Both teams battled back and forth, with the Owls taking leads of 17-10 and 24-21 that the Panthers were able to counter. Adelphi closed out the first set with a 7-2 run to capture a 28-26 victory and jump out to a 1-0 match lead. Alyssa Gage  posted five kills and three aces in the set, while Gabriela Vazquez had four kills. Jillian Chambers added three kills.

2nd Set: (Adelphi 25, SCSU 21)
The Owls opened the set with a 6-4 lead before Adelphi used an 11-5 run to take a 15-11 lead for its largest to that point of the match. After the Owls won the ball back, Adelphi once-again used a deep run, outscoring SCSU, 10-4, to close-out the second frame, 25-15.

3rd Set:
The third set appeared to be following the same path as the second set, as Adelphi took a 18-11 lead. The Owls fought their way back, using a 9-3 run to cut the Panthers lead to 21-20. After Adelphi countered with a 4-0 run to sit at match-point at 24-20, the Owls benefitted from a pair of errors before Adelphi ended the SCSU threat on a kill to close out the third set, 25-22.
