D'Amico Scores To Lead Women's Soccer To 1-0 Win At Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer sophomore Kaitlyn D'Amico (Middletown, Conn.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to lift the Owls to a 1-0 win against Pace in Pleasantvile, N.Y. With the win, the Owls push their winning streak to three-straight games and jump the Setters for fourth place in the conference standings. The Owls improve to 7-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the NE10 while Pace drops to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the conference standings.

D'Amico's fourth goal of the season pushes her past 2018 total of three and gives her seven for her career. Johanna Wahlen (Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) set up the play for her team-leading third assist of the year. Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) saw only one shot-on-goal from the Setters in regulation, which she turned away for her third-straight shutout and sixth overall of the year.

  HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wahlen carried the ball down the left flank before crossing a pass on goal. Pace goalkeeper Jade Mallea came out to challenge the ball but wasn't able to get a handle on it, leaving it in the box for D'Amico and Mikeala Magee. D'Amico was able to get a look at the goal and popped it in to give the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of play.
NOTES
  • Smith now owns a conference leading six shutouts, including three-straight games. The last time the Owls had a three-game shutout streak was during the 2014 season.
  • Smith is currently ranked second in the NE10 in both save percentage (.882) and goals-against average (0.77) while she also improves to 7-2-1 through her first 10 games as the Owls' starting goalkeeper.
  • As a team, Southern has outscored its opponents, 14-8, through its first 10 games, and have yet to allowed a first half goal.
