Carol Stiff '83, '89 To Serve As Womens' Basketball Hall of Fame Board President

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Directors has announced that former Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball player Carol Stiff '83, '89 will serve as the new board President, effective June 13, 2020. Stiff will serve a two-year term.

Per a media release issued by the Hall of the Fame, Stiff said, "I am thrilled to take on this new role with the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Board. Danielle [Donehow] has done a tremendous job as president and I look forward to continuing that work as we all strive to persistently grow the Hall of Fame and the sport of women's basketball."

Stiff was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame this past year for her contributions to the game of basketball as ESPN's Vice President of Women's Sport's Programming. Stiff guided ESPN and the NCAA to exclusivity rights to the NCAA Tournament. In her current role she leads ESPN's efforts in NCAA women's basketball and the WNBA as well as integrating espnW content on ESPN's platforms.

Stiff joined ESPN in 1990, advancing through several programming roles to her current position with ESPN. Among her many accomplishments with premier sports network, Stiff coordinated scheduling on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU including NCAA women's basketball, NCAA championships, Football Championship Series, College World Series, Women's College World Series, WNBA and professional softball.

Stiff earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Southern Connecticut in 1983 before completing her master's degree in human performance/physical education in 1989. As an undergraduate, Stiff was a member of the women's basketball and field hockey teams. In 2018, Stiff coordinated the first espnW panel discussion focusing on women that have played a major role in college athletics on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University that featured Donna Lopiano '86, Kateema Rietti '03 and Angela Ames McKirryher '02.
