SCSU Gymnastics freshman Shannon Farrell comes to Southern from New South Wales, Australia. Farrell is a decorated student-athlete as a member of the Australian Team Futures and was a NSW Junior Elite Athlete of the Year. Farrell won the State Championships in the All-Around, Beam and Floor while helping her team to the Bronze Medal at the Australian Championships.

What professional athlete inspires you? Why?
Jack Wighton, NRL player for the Canberra Raiders. He inspires me because of the amount of adversity and struggle he has faced and is still facing in his career. He never gave up and persevering until he succeeded.  

Why did you choose Southern Connecticut? What set it apart from the other schools you visited?
I chose Southern for its family environment, encouraging team support and great opportunities for my studies in Exercise Science.  
 
What does wearing the SCSU logo mean to you?
It is an honor to wear the SCSU logo. It gives me the feeling of being a part of a team and competing for something that is bigger than myself.
 
What's your favorite inspirational quote?
"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."
 
What are three things on your bucket list?
Go to the Whitsundays, bungee jump in New Zealand and travel around Europe.    
What do you want to do after Southern Connecticut?
After Southern, I want to return home to Australia and continue my studies to pursue a career in sports medicine.
