Baseball Heads To Le Moyne For Final Regular-Season Series

Southern Connecticut State University baseball travels to Syracuse, N.Y. to close-out its regular season with a four-game Northeast 10 Southerwest Division series against Le Moyne on May 7-8. The Owls enter the weekend with a record of 6-7 overall and 5-7 in the NE10 while the Dolphins are 11-5 overall and in conference play.  
 
SPECTATOR POLICY 
Visiting team spectators are not permitted to attend games at Le Moyne. 
 
THE OWLS ALL-TIME AGAINST THE DOLPHINS 
  • Le Moyne has won 15 of the 25 games in the all-time series. 
  • The Owls took 2-of-3 in their last trip to Le Moyne in 2019.  
  • Southern has won six of their last nine games at Le Moyne dating back to the 2017 season. 
SCOUTING THE LE MOYNE DOLPHINS 
  • Le Moyne features four batters batting .300-or-better, led by Derrick Miller who is hitting .327 (16-49) with a team-best 16 hits to go along with two homeruns, nine RBI and team-high 20 runs scored. 
  • Andrew Roden checks-in at .318 (14-44) while Drew Carroll is hitting at a .313 clip (15-48) and is tied for the team lead with 13 RBI and 14 runs scored.  
  • Drew Fureno is hitting .308 (12-39) while leading the team with three home runs and 13 RBI.  
  • On the mound, Joe Vail is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA while leading the team with 34 strikeouts and 22 innings pitched. 
  • Sam DiGeorge is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA while Jacob Maser is 3-1 with a 4.14 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings pitched. 
OWLS NOTES 
  • Southern enters the weekend with a record of 6-7 overall including a 5-7 mark in NE10 play. 
  • The Owls split their four-game set at New Haven and have won three of their last five games. 
  • As a team, the Owls are hitting .288 (115-400) with 87 runs in 13 games (6.7 runs per game). 
  • Against New Haven, Tony Zambito ran his team-best hitting streak to 11 games with a hit in each game. He matches the effort by Mike DeMartino in 2019. 
  • For the four-game set against New Haven, Zambito was 8-for-16 with four runs scored and three stolen bases while posting a team-best .579 on-base percentage. 
  • For the year, Zambito is hitting .480 (24-50) while leading the team with 15 runs scored and 13 stolen bases, as well as a team-best .559 on-base percentage and a 1.119 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. 
  • Nationally, Zambito ranks fourth in NCAA Division II baseball in average, third in hits per game (1.85), 11th in on-base percentage and sixth in stolen bases per game (0.85). 
  • With a RBI in the first game against New Haven, Andrew Eng now has 20 for the season to lead the Owls, in just 13 games. 
  • For the series, Eng had six RBI on six hits while also scoring six runs to go-along with his team-leading fifth home run on Friday. He also stole three bases in the series. 
  • Eng is second in the NE10 and ranks eighth nationally in RBI per game (1.54). 
  • Billy Sullivan, playing in his ninth game of the season out of the Owls' 13 contests, became statistically eligible and sits second in the Owls' lineup with a .382 (13-34) average and is second to Eng with 10 RBI. 
  • Zach Healy saw a three-game hitting streak against New Haven, totaling four hits against the Chargers for the weekend. 
  • Tyshaun Diaz drove in three runs and scored another for the weekend.  
  • Mike Ferrett and Izaiah Walker also drove in four runs, each, for the weekend. 
  • Ferrett has come on as of late. After snapping an 0-for-26 skid, he is hitting .285 (6-21) in his last six games with a home run, five RBI, three doubles and three runs scored. 
  • Walker currently sits third in the Owls' line-up with a .342 average (13-38) with five doubles, eight RBI and nine runs scored. Walker posted a pair of two-RBI games against New Haven last weekend. 
  • Walker also ranks as the eighth hardest batter to strike out in NCAA Division II baseball, doing so once every 19 at-bats. 
  • Jack Drewry shrugged off a hitless weekend against AIC to collect four hits in four games against New Haven, while also scoring three runs in the series. 
  • Tommy Hughes has now appeared in seven of the Owls' 13 games and boasts a 2-0 record with two saves, all in relief, with a 4.08 ERA. 
  • Of late, Hughes has not allowed a run in 8 1/3 consecutive innings over his last four appearances. 
  • Against New Haven, Spencer Fox extended his scoreless-innings streak to 12 2/3 with a dazzling performance in the first game of the Owls' twin bill. 
  • Fox also recorded a season-best seven strikeouts after entering the game with four in his first four outings of the season. 
  • Fox's relief victory was his first career win. Fox has now appeared in five games and team-high 14 innings and lowers his team-leading ERA to 1.93 on the year. 
  • Hughes and Fox have combined to allow just five earned runs in 25 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts.
