The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team opens the 2021 season at the University of Bridgeport Women's Soccer Classic. Southern Connecticut is set to face Mercy College on Friday, September 3 to kickstart the weekend. The squad will then take on host Bridgeport on Sunday, September 5.

All-Time Against Mercy: 2-4
The Last Time They Met: These two teams last faced each other on October 12, 2019 where Mercy capture the 2-0. The Owls are winless against the Mavericks since September 4, 2012.
 
All-Time Against Bridgeport: 2-5
The Last Time They Met: These two squads last met in this very same tournament in 2019. SCSU defeated the then-No. 2 nationally ranked and defending National Champion Purple Knights, 1-0.

Looking Back
When the Owls take the pitch on Friday, it will have been 656 days since their last match. Their 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19. SCSU last competed on November 17, 2019 when they fell to Saint Rose in the NE10 Championship game, 3-2.

Returning to the Fold
SCSU returns 12 players from 2019 that helped the team to the NE10 Championship including: graduate students Nadine Hilkert and Allie Smith, seniors Amanda Dustin, Abby Allen, Kaitlyn D'Amico, Greta Brunello, Taylor Davis, and Georgia Teixeira, and juniors Abby Lucas, Julia Alicea, Julia Casimiro, and Felicia Laguerre.

The Owls also welcomed eight players during the 2020-2021 pandemic season that will be returning this season. Lindsay Burnham, Nyla Urso-Serrano, Emma McMurray, Alexie Rosado, Sabrina Nogula, Kelsey Burr, Riley Ayer, and Sydney Caccamo all joined the squad. Burr is a familiar face to this Owl squad. She was a member of the team in 2018 where she was a force on the frontline collecting three goals and two assists, while starting all 19 games for the squad that season.

Welcome Aboard
The 2021 Owl squad also features nine newcomers. Graduate student Meghan Dalton (transfer from Bryant), senior Mia Mulin (transfer from Muhlenberg), and first year players Aries Bell, Caileigh Driscoll, Faith Lee, Kat Mancinone, Kylee Slavik, Sophie Smith, Victoria Vera all join the team for their debut season.

Owls in the NE10
Southern Connecticut was picked eighth in the 2021 Northeast 10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Saint Rose received the most points in the poll with 166 and had 10 first place votes. Adelphi, Bentley, Franklin Pierce and American International rounded out the first place votes, all collecting one each. Stonehill (138) and Southern New Hampshire (136) finished second and third, respectively, in the voting.

Following the Owls two-game stint at the Bridgeport Classic, they will return to Jess Dow Field for their home opener against the College of Staten Island on Saturday, September 11.
