Gymnastics Wins Tri-Meet Against Brown, Bridgeport

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics captured a pair of wins in its tri-meet at Brown University with Bridgeport. The Owls posted a team score of 191.700 to finish ahead of Brown (190.700) and Bridgeport (189.925).

The Owls took three of the four events, with Brown grabbing the Bars event. Hannah Stahlbrodt (Cicero, N.Y.) posted a meet-high 38.625 to win the All-Around competition, good for her top score of the season through two meets. Head-to-head, the Owls' two wins are the first of head coach Byron Knox's Southern Connecticut career. 

Vault
  • Southern captured the Vault event with a score of 48.325, with all six participants posted a 9.525-or-higher.
  • Stahlbrodt and freshman Brooke Burkhart (Haymarket, Va.) tied for fourth to lead the Owls after both registered a 9.725.
  • Hanna Zebdi (Ashburn, Va.) scored a 9.700 while Cassidy Girolamo (Newington, Conn.) had a 9.650. Zebdi's 9.7 was a career-best, passing her 9.600 from the Owls' competition at Bridgeport on Jan. 22. Girolamo's score was also a season-best.
  • Lexi Bracher (Oakton, Va.), making her collegiate debut, posted a 9.525, while Sydney Wilson (Woodbridge, Ill.) matched her with the same score, which also stood as her personal best.  
Bars
  • Southern rallied together to post a combined 47.000 on the bars, highlighted by Stahlbrodt's 9.850, which was good for second place.
  • Chelsea Baker (Neptune, N.J.) was close behind in fourth place with a 9.650 while Delaney Fields (Denver, Colo.) tallied a 9.400.
  • Baker, a four-year member of the Owls, made her collegiate debut in the meet.
  • Audrey Arnold (Kirkland, Wash.) also contributed a 9.250.
Beam
  • Southern scored a meet-high 48.700 on the beam, led by Noely Macias (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Emelia Diaz (Jacobus, Pa.), who both scored a 9.800 for a tie of second place.
  • Macias and Diaz posted season-bests for the Owls with their 9.8's in the event.
  • Angel Lee (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored a career-best 9.725 followed by Libby Allen (Franklin, Tenn.) at 9.700 as Southern took four of the top eight spots in the event.
  • Bianca Leon (Miami, Fla.), making her season debut,  also scored a 9.675.
Floor
  • Stahlbrodt finished first and led the Owls on the Floor, posting a program-best 9.775 while the team combined for a 47.675.
  • Libby Allen scored a 9.550 while Zebdi had a 9.525 and Macias had a 9.450.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 6 when it travels across town to take on Yale at 1 p.m.
