NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut volleyball team swept Pace University, 3-0, at Pelz Gymnasium. With the win, the Owls moved to 14-11 overall and 3-5 in the Northeast 10, while the Setters moved to 3-16 overall and 1-6 in the NE10.

Match Leaders
Sara Enright (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and
Gabriela Gaibur (Monroe, N.Y.) led the Owls with 10 kills each. Enright also snagged 15 digs and four service aces, while Gaibur recorded 10.
Heliceliz Rivera (Corozal, Puerto Rico) had a team-high 18 assists, while
Taylor Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded 17 assists and three service aces.
Aubrey Villena (San Diego, Calif.) dug out 18 balls and added two service aces.
Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded five blocks on defense and added eight kills on offense.
How It Happened
- Pace jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first set. Southern battled back into the set with eight of the next 14 points, 12-10. The Setters' offense pushed forward to maintain their lead. At 19-16, Southern powered through for a 7-3 run that tied the game at 22 all. The remainder of the set was a battle between both sides as they jostled for the set point. The Owls were able to get it done behind back-to-back kills from Gaibur and Enright.
- Set two started in favor of the Setters who led 5-3. Southern responded with a 7-1 stretch and snagged the lead. Pace inched its way back in it and tied it at 10 all. The Owls took six of the next eight points and a four-point lead heading into the second half of the set. Pace could only grab two more points as Southern's offense ignited for six-straight points to close out set two.
- The final set was far from quiet as the Setters looked to grab a set and send this to four. At 17-17, the Owls grabbed two quick points before Pace snagged four-straight and the lead. Southern battled its way through the final six points behind three service aces from Enright to close out the sweep at home.
