SCSU Women's Soccer Defeats Bentley, 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer rolled to a 2-0 win against Bentley in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field. With the win the Owls improved to 7-5-3 overall and 5-2-3 in the NE10 while Bentley drops to 7-6-3 overall and 5-5-1 in conference play.

The win not only ended Bentley's four-game winning streak but also allowed the Owls to jump the Falcons in the NE10 standings. Heading into the final game of the season, Southern leads Bentley with 19 points to the Falcons' 16 in the conference standings. Eyeing the fourth seed in the upcoming NE10 tournament, and home field advantage for the First Round, the Owls would need to win or tie when they travel to Saint Anselm on Wednesday, Oct. 26 to host a conference tournament game on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Jess Dow Field.

Against the Falcons, Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kat Mancinone (Roxbury, Conn.) both scored in the first half. Burr's goal less than five minutes into regulation started with Kylee Slavik () carrying the ball deep into the Falcons' zone before zipping a pass from the corner to Kaitlyn D'Amico () to the right of the goal. D'Amico centered a pass to Burr who one-touched it past the Falcons' keeper to give the Owls the early lead.

With 11:30 to play in the first half, Mancinone got on the board thanks to a heads-up play by Julia Alicea (Columbia, Conn.) to keep the ball in the Owls' attack zone. Bentley attempted the clear the ball but Alicea knocked it down at 30-yards out and lead Mancinone into the box. The Owls' reserve then took a dribble towards the right post before crossing-up the goalkeeper with a shot to the opposite side of the net to give Southern a 2-0 lead.

Burr's goal was her team-leading fourth of the season, while Mancinone scored for the first time this season and became the 12th player in the Owls' lineup to score this season. In goal, Abby Allen (Orange, Conn.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season with a five-save performance against Bentley. Allen's clean sheet was her NE10-leading fifth against a conference opponent this season.
