NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut volleyball topped Georgian Court University, 3-0, at Pelz Gymnasium. With the win, the Owls improved to 12-8 overall, while the Lions fell to 7-10.

How It Happened
- The first set was tightly played on both sides, but Southern got the edge midway through and took a three-point lead, 16-13. Each time Georgian Court snagged a point, the Owls matched it with another. The Lions rallied back each time to stay in the set. Down 24-22, Georgian Court grabbed two quick points to tie it. As the Owls quickly took the lead once more on an error, the Lions offense pressed and it was the latter who had set point. Each team had three opportunities to close the match, but the Owls got the upper hand with a three-point rally to take the first set victory.Â
- Southern carried their momentum into the second set with a 6-1 rally to start. Georgian Court found their way back in it with a 6-1 rally of their own to come within one. At 13-13, the Owls broke free with four-straight points. An attempt from the Lions put them back within one, but Southern kept their offense rolling with a 6-0 run that capped the set by seven.
- Georgian Court picked up three of the first four points in set three, but Southern responded with six-straight points and took the lead. The Lions came as close as two points from the Owls' lead, but Southern rattled six more points and took an 18-10 lead. Southern's offensive pressure was too much for the Lions to withstand and the Owls went on to secure the sweep in set three by seven.
