SCSU Women's Soccer Falls To Saint Anselm, 2-1, In NE10 Quarterfinals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer lost to Saint Anselm, 2-1, in a Northeast 10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal game at Jess Dow Field.

Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the Owls' only goal in the loss. The graduate student finishes her season with five goals and three assists for 13 points for the year.

Burr put the Owls on the board in just the 4th minute of play after taking a pass from Amanda Dustin (Marshfield, Mass.). Burr dribbled by two defenders to an open spot on the field before blasting a shot over the outstretched hand of the Hawks goalkeeper Kate Macaluso.

In the 12th minute, Saint Anselm's Erin Rutherford scored on a shot in the box after making a move around her defender. Rutherford flipped a shot on goal from the left of the goal to the opposite post to tie the game at 1-1.

Late in the first half, Rutherford collected the ball at midfield and sent it down the sideline. Josie Pecor picked up the ball just outside the box, dribbled around her defender and along the goal line before centering a pass to Olivia Gotobed who redirected the pass past Abby Allen to give Saint Anselm a 2-1 lead.

Southern had an opportunity late when Alexie Rosado unleashed a blast on goal that Macaluso couldn't handle as it went off her hands and found the cross bar to keep the Owls off the board.
