SCSU Volleyball's Season Ends With NE10 Semifinal Loss To Adelphi

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut volleyball's run in the Northeast 10 Conference Championship tournament ended with a three-set loss to No. 3 Adelphi in the NE10 Semifinals in Springfield, Mass. With the loss, Southern's season ends with a 17-15 overall record.

Heliceliz Rivera (Corazol, Puerto Rico) finished with 10 kills and 17 assists and came within two digs of posting her third triple-double of the season after finishing with eight in the match. Rivera also posted two blocks. Sara Enright (Yorba Linda, Calif.) had nine kills and eight digs while Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) finished with seven kills and a block.

In the first set, neither team led by more than two points for the entire first frame. With the Owls trailing, 22-20 and winning the ball back on a service error, Rivera rattled off three-straight kills to give Southern a 24-22 lead before Adelphi rallied to score the final three points of the set.

In the second set, Adelphi opened with an 8-4 lead before Southern rallied behind three kills by Kacey Deecher to take an 11-10 lead. Adelphi used a 13-6 run to take a 23-16 lead and then countered back-to-back points by Southern Connecticut to close out the second set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set saw more back-and-forth early, with Adelphi holding a 6-5 lead and then scored six of the next seven points to jump out to a 12-6 advantage. Southern scored on back-to-back plays before Adelphi put the pedal down and took off an 11-3 run to take a 23-11 lead, and then holding on for the final two points and the sweep.
