PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Competing in the 2022 Unite For Her Pink Invitational, Southern Connecticut matched their season-best score with a 191.700 against West Chester. WCU won the head-to-head result with a score of 192.950.
Cassidy Girolamo (Newington, Conn.) competed in a team-high three events with a score of 9.5-or-higher in all three of them. Girolamo posted her top scores of the season in the Vault and the Floor, with a win in the Vault event and a fifth-place finish on the Floor.
Bianca Leon (Miami, Fla.) also won the Bars event.
VAULT
- Southern's lone event win of the afternoon came on the Vault, 48.15-48.075, behind Girolamo's first-place finish.
- Hanna Zebdi finished third with a 9.675 while Brooke Burkhart scored a 9.625 for fifth place.
- Zebdi (9.684) and Burkhart (9.68) sit first and second in the Owls lineup in Vault average score while Girolamo is close behind at 9.671.
BARS
- Leon and Chelsea Baker took the top two spots on the bars, respectively. Leon posted a 9.7 while Baker was close behind at 9.65.
- Baker's score matches her season best, which she also scored in the Owls' season-opener against Brown and Bridgeport.
- Audrey Arnold scored a 9.575 while Girolamo was right behind her at 9.525.
- Arnold has now scored a 9.5-or-better in four-straight meets.
BEAM
- Freshman Emelia Diaz scored a season-best 9.8 on the Balance Beam to lead the Owls while finishing in second place.
- Diaz is averaging a 9.546 on the beam.
- Angel Lee also posted a season-high in the event with a 9.775 for third place.
- Lee is averaging a 9.608.
- Emiley Kahl finished fourth with a season-best 9.75 while Molly Froman was sixth at 9.675.
FLOOR
- Despite West Chester claiming the top four spots on the Floor, Southern received solid performances from Girolamo (9.7), Zebdi (9.7) and Noely Macias (9.6).
- Macias is averaging a team-high 9.562.
- Burkhart also competed on the Floor for the first time this season, tallying a 9.45.
Southern is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 20 when they compete at Brown's Rumble & Tumble event featuring Rhode Island College and Long Island University at 1 p.m. The event will be available on ESPN+.
