ITHACA, N.Y. - Southern Connecticut State University gymnasts Chelsea Baker and Bianca Leon earned a spot in the 2022 USA Gymnastics National Championships Finals and will compete on Sunday, Apr. 11 at 1 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y. 

Both gymnasts posted in the top-five on the uneven parallel bars as Baker led the way with a 9.8 for a tie of third place while Leon was tied for fifth at 9.75. Baker's mark was her fourth 9.8-or-higher of the season while she bested her National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.745. The senior's journey started with back-to-back seasons in which she was sideline with two different injuries, before missing the next year to the pandemic. As a senior this year, she became a mainstay on the bars for the Owls, posting a program season-best 9.875 while finishing second at the Gymnastics East Championships.

For Leon, the 2022 WGCA All-American advanced to the finals of the USAG Nationals after she qualified for the competition with a team-best 9.810 NQS. Leon entered Friday's competition with scores of 9.8-or-higher in three of her last four meets, including matching Baker's 9.875 at GEC's. Leon was also an All-GEC First Team selection on the bars and holds the Owls' record on the bars (9.9) and the beam (9.9).
