NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team split a pair of matches in its season opener at Pelz Gymnasium. The Owls fell to Mercy College, 3-1, in game one of the day before scooping a 3-1 victory over Assumption University in game two.
Gabriela Gaibur (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Taylor Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) picked up where they left off last season with two solid performances on the court. Gaibur picked up a pair of double-doubles with 11 kills, 11 digs in the opening match before recording 17 kills and 21 digs in game two. Jones picked up two 20-plus assist games with a 26-assist performance in game one against Mercy before posting a 39-assist performance in the nightcap.
In her SCSU debut,
Sara Enright (Yorba Linda, Calif.) posted two double-double performances with 10 kills and 12 digs against Mercy and closed the night with a 14 kill, 11 dig showing against Assumption.
