How It Happened
  • In the opening set, both sides tugged for the lead until midway through. At 12-12, Dominican charged forward with three-straight points to take the largest lead of the set to that point. Southern found their way back in it and outscored Dominican, 5-1, to gain the lead. After Dominican tied it, Southern made a push with another 5-1 run that ended up being the momentum shift the Owls needed for the set one victory.
  • The second showing began similar to the first set. At 7-7, Dominican rallied with a 6-1 run to take the lead by four. Southern then ignited for a 9-1 run of their own to take a four-point lead. An attempt by Dominican to claw their way back into the set was halted as the Owls kept their foot on the gas for a set two victory by five.
  • Dominican came into the third set with steam and jumped out to a 4-0 start. The Owls chipped away at the Chargers lead and eventually went on a 5-0 run that saw them capture their first lead of the set. Southern's lead did not last long as Dominican scored six of the next seven points and took a four-point lead. Southern countered with 10 of the next 12 points to inch ahead, but the Chargers pushed back to tie it. In the ensuing moments, both sides benefited from opponent errors, but the Owls eventually gained the edge and went on to complete the sweep at home.
