WEEKLY PREVIEW: SCSU Field Hockey Plays4TheCure, Trunk or Treat and SCSU Volleyball Senior Day

SCSU Field Hockey, Volleyball and Men's Soccer are home this week, with the field hockey team taking the turf at Jess Dow Field for the final time this season on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. against Pace. That game is the Owls' annual "Play4TheCure" game to benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research.  
 
Men's soccer will host American International on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. and Volleyball will be home on Friday, Oct. 27 against Southern New Hampshire before hosting Molloy on Sunday, Sept. 29 for Senior Day at 12 p.m.

Play4TheCure
Tuesday, Oct. 24th field hockey game against Pace will be SCSU Field Hockey's annual "Play 4 The Cure" Game to benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
 
Play4TheCure® is the sports fundraising program of the National Foundation for Cancer Research, helping to raise critical funds to prevent, treat and cure cancer, ALL cancers.
 
Play4TheCure inspires athletes to leverage their passion for sports to "Play4" loved ones affected by cancer. Throughout the season, participants establish Play4TheCure events that raise dollars to support cancer research. 100% of dollars raised through Play4TheCure supports NFCR-funded scientists.
 
Not only does Play4TheCure support NFCR's mission to accelerate research, but it also provides a number of benefits to team sporting programs, including:
 
- Promoting teamwork to reach one common goal
- Building good character and relationship skills
- Teaching the importance of giving back
- Providing a way for teams to support each other and their communities

SCSU S.A.A.C. Trunk or Treat
Southern Connecticut's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) will host its first Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 5-7 p.m. in the Wintergreen parking lot adjacent to the James Moore Field House. Following the Trunk or Treat event, SCSU Men's Soccer will face AIC at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.

Southern Connecticut field hockey will play the final two games of the regular season this week when it hosts Pace on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field before traveling to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy on Friday, Oct. 27.
 
Notes: Tori Geaglone currently ranks third in the NE10 with 12 goals and 29 points and is second on the team with five assists. The Owls midfielder also ranks third in the conference with five defensive saves and is 2-for-2 on penalty strokes … Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti leads the team and ranks fifth in the NE10 with eight assists, while also scoring six goals for 20 points … First-year Owl Meghan Tillona ranks 12th in the conference with eight goals for the year … Kayla Siemer ranks sixth in the conference with three defensive saves.

SCSU Men's Soccer will host AIC on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls won back-to-back games last week, including a 4-0 win at Assumption followed by a 3-1 win against Southern New Hampshire at home.
 
Notes: Umberto Catale leads the Owls with seven points with two goal and three assists … Yannick Hilpert scored against Assumption and then followed with a two-goal outing against SNHU to give him a team-leading three goals for the season … With two assists against Assumption, Jalen Jean leads the Owls with four assists for the season … Devin Juan earned his second NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honor after stopping 10-of-11 shots on goal against Assumption and Southern New Hampshire, including a seven-save outing against the Penmen.

SCSU Volleyball will look to get back on track when it travels to Pace on Tuesday, Oct. 24 before hosting SNHU on Friday, Sept. 27. The Owls will then host Senior Day to honor Sara Enright when SCSU Volleyball faces off against Molloy on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m. at Pelz Gym.
Notes: Sara Enright currently ranks fifth in the NE10 with 240.0 points for the year. For the year, she has totaled 186 kills, 40 aces and 23 blocks … Carissa Michel ranks 11th in the NE10 with 208 points for the season with 165 kills, 27 aces and 23 blocks.

Kelsey Burr leads the Owls, and ranks second in the NE10, with 10 goals and 23 points, as well as three assists. Burr is coming off a two-goal performance in a 2-2 tie at Southern New Hampshire that included the game-tying goal with less than two minutes to play, and was also her third multiple-goal game of the season … Alexie Rosado is second on the Owls' roster with four goals and 10 points, with two assists … Taylor Hennig leads the Owls with four assists.

Notes: Owls running back E'Lijah Gray had a day at Pace, racking up 182 total yards as the Owls pulled off a five-overtime win, 25-23, against the Setters. Gray pounded out 121 yards on 27 carries with a pair of touchdowns while he also had nine catches for 61 yards. It was Gray's third game of 120 yards-or-more rushing in his last four games and the second time he topped 60 yards receiving while his nine catches were a season-best. Gray ranks fourth in the NE10 in total yards (547), yards per game (68.4) and rushing touchdowns (4) … The NE10's top receiver, Tylon Papallo put together his third-straight 100 yard effort with seven catches for 101 yards, while scoring once and also catching the game-winning two-point conversion in the fifth overtime as the Owls defeated Pace, 25-23. Papallo leads the NE10 in receiving yards (755), yards per game (94.3) and receiving touchdowns (6) … Owls linebacker Jahlil Watson was a menace at Pace, totaling eight tackles and two sacks as the Owls held the Setters' offense to just 149 yards on the day … Against Pace, Keith Ridley threw for a season-best 326 yards after completing 34-of-56 passes with a touchdown while Luke Gadson had seven catches for a team-high 94 yards.
