SCSU Athletics COVID-19 Guidelines
General:
If you feel ANY symptoms, out of an abundance of caution and consideration for your teammates, coaches, staff, and entire SCSU community please complete the following:
  • Communicate with your team's designated Athletic Trainer & COVID-19 Coordinator (Allison Dale)
  • Stay in your residence hall or at home until you either have a negative test result or are instructed otherwise by Athletic Training.
The athletics department also encourages all student-athletes and staff to receive the booster shot if eligible.
Vaccinated vs Unvaccinated Definitions for Quarantine/Isolation/Overnight & Out-of-State Travel for Positive Covid-19 Test
  • Vaccinated: For these guidelines you are considered vaccinated if you have received a booster shot or are still within the five months vaccination period for Pfizer and Moderna (or two months for Johnson&Johnson) OR you are within 90 days of PCR testing positive for COVID-19.  
  • Unvaccinated: For these guidelines, you are considered unvaccinated if you have:
  1. not received any vaccine
  2. received part of the vaccine series (1 of 2 shots or are not 2 weeks out of your second shot)
  3. been outside of five months of receiving Pfizer & Moderna (or two months for Johnson & Johnson) and have not received a booster shot.

Close Contact Protocol and Contact Tracing
Contact tracing will now be limited to residential students and athletes only. Essentially, we are now contact tracing for communal living situations only – mirroring state DPH guidelines for K through 12 schools.
 
Those deemed close contacts will fall under one of the two protocols detailed in the chart below based on vaccination status (defined previously).

 
VACCINATED UNVACCINATED
No Quarantine Required Quarantine for 5 days after exposure at home/off-campus residence or on campus if unable to return to home residence. The on-campus option is for residential students only.
*Assuming no symptoms
Masks are required in all settings for 10 days post-exposure. * Masks required around others in all settings for 5 days after quarantining.
*Vaccinated students who are not required to quarantine, but are required to mask at all times, will be permitted to remove masks for training in the following sports: Swimming/Diving, Gymnastics, and Pole Vaulting.
Positive Covid-19 Test 
Those who present a positive Covid-19 test will fall under one of the two protocols detailed in the chart below based off of vaccination status (defined previously).

 
VACCINATED UNVACCINATED
Isolate for 5 days after positive test at home/off-campus residence or on campus if unable to return to home residence. On campus option is for residential students only. If/when you no longer have symptoms or your symptoms are noticeably improving, take an Antigen Test in Schwartz Hall on Day 6 (or later).
1)If Negative you are released from Isolation and masking is required an additional 5 days at all times when around others.
2) If the antigen test comes back positive you will remain in Isolation an additional 5 days

 
If/when you no longer have symptoms or your symptoms are noticeably improving, take an Antigen Test in Schwartz Hall on Day 6 (or later).
1)If Negative you are released from Isolation and masking is required an additional 5 days at all times when around others.
2) If the antigen test comes back positive you will remain in Isolation an additional 5 days

If you are an employee and report a positive case you will receive a standard message describing the requirements for isolation and encouraging you to notify close contacts and your supervisor.

Return To Play Procedure (RTP) for Asymptomatic and Mild Symptoms. 
Per NCAA guidelines the following are for asymptomatic and mild symptoms:
  • No medical evaluation is required prior to RTP unless the student-athlete has specific concerns;
  • No specific cardiac testing; additional cardiac testing based on clinical concern or institutional requirements;
  • No exercise for 3 days from a positive test.
  • On Day 1 student-athlete should schedule a telehealth appointment for Day 4 with their AT.  
DAY 0 Day 0 is the day you tested.
DAY 1 Isolate
DAY 2 Isolate
DAY 3 Isolate
DAY 4 Isolate –  Telehealth with AT, go over RTP progression, and Begin Day 1 of RTP if cleared by AT to begin
DAY 5 Isolate – Begin Day 2 of RTP
DAY 6 Antigen Test
1)Delay if symptoms are not resolved
2)If negative, released from Isolation-Begin Day 3 of RTP (Masking required at all times)
3)If positive, remain in Isolation for 5 days-Reassess RTP progress with AT and begin Day 3 if cleared.
DAY 7 RTP – Begin Day 4
DAY 8 RTP – Begin Day 5
DAY 9 RTP – Begin Day 6
DAY 10 RTP – Begin Day 7 (Last day of Isolation for those who test positive on Day 6)
 
Return to play for athletes who exhibit moderate illness (more than 2 days of fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms; or chest pain, SOB, or palpitations) or severe illness will be handled on a case by case basis.

Testing Guidelines
Symptomatic Testing:
Testing will occur for any student that becomes symptomatic & will follow SCSU, NE-10, CSCU, DPH, CDC & NCAA recommendations & guidelines. Students who are symptomatic can obtain a test a health services. 
 

Staff who become symptomatic are encouraged to obtain a negative antigen test prior to participating in any further athletic related activities. Staff wishing to test because of COVID-19 symptoms will need to obtain a test off campus. 
 

Unvaccinated Testing: 
In order to compete and practice, students residing on campus, commuter students, as well as athletics staff who are unvaccinated, according to the definitions below, will be required to PCR test weekly on campus in Schwartz Hall.
  1. Student-athletes will be considered Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated if:
    1. They have not had a COVID-19 infection within the last 90 days 
    2. They have not received a Johnson & Johnson vaccination
    3. They have not received a vaccination or have received only ONE dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccination

Masking 
Masks including KN95s and N95s, which offer the most protection against the Delta and Omicron variants, will be available for distribution, starting Tuesday at the following locations: the Adanti Student Center Information Desk, the Buley Library Circulation and Security Desks and the Wintergreen Building Information Desk. Although KN95 and N95 masks are not required they are strongly encouraged.
 
To ensure a continued ample supply for all members of our community, please collect only one mask per person per day. You will not be able to pick them up for others (e.g., an entire office, class, organization, etc.). Please be considerate of those in our community who have a greater need for access to these masks.

Spectator Policy
At this time no outside visitors are permitted at SCSU home events. For away competitions please refer to the home institutions' visitor/fan policies. 

Pause Protocol 
A team may be put on pause if the institution believes there is a sustained increased transmission within the team.
 
Per NCAA guidelines Sustained increased transmission is likely occurring if: 
• Team of less than 50 student-athletes: Concurrent positive cases of three or more.
• Team of more than 50 student-athletes: Concurrent positive cases of 5 percent or more.
 
When the sustained increased transmission is occurring, decisions about continued team activity should be made at the local level and with consideration given to the ongoing risk of team transmission or transmission to another team during the competition.
