NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) of the women’s basketball team and junior Jimm Guerrier (Brockton, Mass.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for December.
Beathea averaged 17.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game for the Owls during the four contests played in December. She posted double-doubles in the outings against LeMoyne (13 points, 16 rebounds) and New Haven (18 points, 17 rebounds) and helped SCSU record a 2-2 mark. Beathea, who currently ranks among the Division II leaders in double-doubles, is also fourth in the Northeast-10 in rebounding and ninth in scoring. She was also named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week during the month.
Guerrier, a transfer from Roxbury Community College, made an immediate impact for the Owls in his first competitions with the team. He finished second in the triple jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark (14.24 meters) and was sixth in the long jump at the Manhattan Season Opener. The following weekend, at the Elm City Challenge, he improved on his provisional qualifying mark with a leap of 14.92 meters in claiming the triple jump. Guerrier currently ranks second in all of Division II in that event. He was also named to the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll during the course of the month.
