NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) of the women's swimming and diving team and sophomore Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been selected as the SCSU Athletes of the Week.
For the second year in a row, Thomas was named the Division II National Swimmer of the Meet at the conclusion of the NCAA Championships. Voting was conducted by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
Thomas concluded this year's NCAA Championship with her third straight NCAA title in the 200 individual medley, which was the fourth NCAA overall crown of her career. She also finished as the runner-up in the 200 butterfly, was third in the 400 IM and sixth in the 200 backstroke. Thomas collected All-America honors in all four events.
As a result of her efforts this weekend, Thomas capped her collegiate career as an 18-time All-American. She won four NCAA individual titles and also finished as the runner-up in four additional races.
Lebron earned All-America honors in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships with a third place finish. A year after winning the NCAA title in that competition, he actually posted the third-highest score in Division II history this year.
