NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Julie Muscarella (Suffield, Conn.) of the softball team and redshirt senior Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) of the baseball team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Muscarella, who was also named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week earlier today, batted .636 (7-for-11) with a team-high seven runs batted in during a 3-1 week. Muscarella also scored twice and connected for her first home run of the year.
Yerina, also named the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week earlier today, notched a pair of wins in two starts and took a perfect game into the eighth inning of his most recent start against Assumption on Sunday. In all, he recorded a 0.60 earned run average during the week and merited just one run in 15 innings pitched. Yerina, now 4-0 on the year, also fanned 12 batters.
