NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) of the volleyball team and freshman Kevin Joslyn (Norwalk, Conn.) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Beres helped lead the Owls to a perfect 3-0 week that allowed the club to improve its overall mark to 5-1 on the year. She totaled a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs in a win over Dominican, a match in which she also posted a .381 hitting percentage. Beres added eight kills and a .350 hitting percentage in a win over Caldwell, along with four kills in a win over Mercy.
Joslyn netted the first two goals of his collegiate career in the Owls’ 3-1 win over Bentley on Saturday. He set the tone for the match with a goal just 47 seconds into play. Joslyn was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
