NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Vito Fornarelli (Colchester, Conn.) of the football team and senior Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) of the volleyball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Fornarelli had a stellar afternoon in the game against Stonehill College on Saturday. He finished with six catches for a career-high of 134 yards.
Black posted a double-double to lead the Owls to a 3-1 win at LeMoyne on Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. She finished with 14 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Earlier in the week, Black also had seven kills and nine digs earlier in the week in a match against Saint Rose.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
