NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Michael Lee (New London, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team and sophomore Nicole Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) of the gymnastics team have been named the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Lee was a key component at the Dartmouth Relays this past weekend as the Owls finished in second place with a score of 113 points. Lee and teammates Jimm Guerrier, Twayne Forth and Logan Sharpe finished first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:21.68. Lee also finished first in the long jump at 7.20 meters. In addition, Lee placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 14.80 meters.
Pruchnik helped the Owls to their first victory of the season on Saturday against Bridgeport. She notched victories on the floor exercise, the vault and the balance beam. Pruchnik scored a 9.85 on the floor exercise along with a 9.725 on the beam. She shared the top spot with teammate Meghan Cole on vault with a score of 9.55.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
