NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team and junior Jessica Renzo (Westfield, Mass.) of the women's swimming and diving team have been named the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Renzo qualified for the NCAA Championships on the the three-meter diving board against LeMoyne on Saturday. The junior scored 272.18 points and also won the one-meter diving event against the Dolphins, scoring 247.64 points.
Lebron moved atop the Division II leaderboard in the heptathlon last week, as he won the competition at the University of Rhode Island. In all, he totaled 5,496 points at URI.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
