NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jenna Tammel (Spring Valley, Minn.) of the volleyball team and Jarom Freeman (Peekskill, N.Y.) of the football team have been named as Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for August. Both student-athletes were instrumental in leading their respective clubs to strong starts during the opening month of action.
Tammel, a junior outside hitter, helped the Owls to a 3-1 start during the month of August. She led the team in kills in each of the team’s four outings and totaled 48 kills in the month. For her efforts, she was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll on Sept. 2.
Freeman, a junior tailback, broke out with another outstanding performance during the first game of the 2008 season. He rushed for 242 yards and two scores in the win against West Virginia Wesleyan, while also tallying three catches for 32 yards. It was his fourth career game with at least 200 rushing yards. For his efforts, he was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll on Sept. 2.
