NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Nicole Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) of the gymnastics team and senior Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) of the men’s basketball team have been named the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Pruchnik matched a program-record with a 9.9 on the floor exercise as the Owls recorded a season-high score of 191.375 in a five-team meet at Rutgers. Pruchnik matched Rebecca Brady’s mark of a 9.9 on the floor, set at the 2012 ECAC Championships. She also finished with a 9.575 on the vault and a 9.675 on the beam.
Langston’s three-pointer with just over six seconds remaining in Saturday’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship game provided the margin of victory for the Owls in a 73-71 triumph over New Haven. He also averaged eight rebounds and four assists per game in Southern’s two wins last week. The Owls are the No. 1 seed in the East Region heading into this weekend’s NCAA Regional, which will be hosted at Moore Field House.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
