NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Yakabu Ibrahim (Franklin, N.J.) of the men's outdoor track and field team and senior Brianna Ecklof (Howell, N.J.) of the gymnastics team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Ibrahim took home the top spot in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.44 seconds. That time was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Ecklof received All-America honors during the USAG Collegiate National Championships after scoring a 9.8 on the floor exercise. She tied for sixth in the event. This was her second time earning All-American honors as an Owl, as she also did so as a sophomore.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field
