NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Juniors Michael Cameron (Hartford, Conn.) of the men's outdoor track and field team and Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) of the women's lacrosse team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Cameron earned the first place spot in the shot put with a mark of 17.38 meters at the UConn New England Challenge with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The junior also had a provisional qualifier in the discus as the Owls finished second as a team at the competition.
Muise had five goals and 13 draw controls in the Owls' two games last week, a stretch in went the Owls went 1-1. She had a hat trick and nine draw controls in the game against AIC. The junior also scored two goals to help the team register an 8-6 victory over Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
