NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Nicole Hauser (Stevens Point, Wisc.) of the volleyball team and junior Daquan King (Plainville, Conn.) of the men's soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Hauser had a stellar weekend for the Owls, who won their season opening match against Nyack on Friday. She posted double-doubles in both Friday matches – against Nyack (20 kills, 15 digs) and Dowling (10 kills, 11 digs) – en route to a team-high 33 kills. Hauser also finished second on the club over the weekend with 33 digs.
King helped the Owls to a 2-0 week, which included a 1-0 triumph over No. 8 nationally ranked LIU-Post in the season opener. He recorded two goals in Saturday's 4-1 win over Mercy.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
