NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Caylee Richardson (Oxford, Conn.) of the women’s cross country team and senior Zachary Williams (Wolcott, Conn.) of the football team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Richardson finished eighth overall out of 81 runners at last weekend’s Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup. She completed the course in a time of 17:14. The Owls placed sixth of nine teams at the competition.
Williams registered six tackles, including two for loss, and also contributed a sack and a quarterback hurry in the Owls’ 23-20 overtime loss to Saint Anselm on Saturday. Five of his tackles were solo efforts, and his six tackle performance was the second-best single-game effort of his career, trailing only a nine-tackle performance against Assumption in 2011.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
