NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Victoria Buonanni (Durham, Conn.) of the women’s soccer team and freshman Chae Brangman (St. George’s, Bermuda) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Buonanni netted a total of two goals in the Owls’ two outings last week, including the game-winning marker in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Stonehill. She also recorded a goal against Pace. Southern Connecticut extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight games (8-0-1) with the two wins. Buonanni was also selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for her efforts last week.
Brangman recorded five points (two goals, one assist) for the Owls in Saturday’s 4-1 win over St. Anselm. In all, the Owls went 2-0 last week to improve to 11-1 on the season.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
